A Classic Indeed~ Movie Review

One thing I must say about Koreans is that they make amazing films. I learned that little fact after spending time with my dad who is a sci-fi/ foreign film fanatic. I  recently watched a really good Korean film last week that I thought was wonderful called The Classic , a movie that parallels the love life of a mother and  daughter.
Ji-Hae is the lead character who finds herself stuck in a love triangle among desperate friend Soo-Gyung and her secret crush Sang-Min. She constantly acts as the third wheel on dates and tries to hide her feelings to please her friend. While dealing with the problems of her own love life she reads her mother's old love letters that detail a similar circumstance, but only her mother is trapped between two best friends. The story line shifts between present day(Ji-Hae) and the past (her mother). This may have not been so confusing if the same actress hadn't played both the role of the mother and daughter. This will not become much of a problem until the end when constant scene changes and time gaps occur leaving you wondering whose life you are seeing.  The only other problem I had with this movie was its ending. It seemed as if there were two different endings and the director didn't know which one to choice, so they kept them both into the film. This left me confused, thinking that the movie had ended when there was were still a few minutes left.
This film had only two minor problems and I enjoyed watching it. I loved how the film didn't take itself too seriously. It had a good balance between romance and comedy, but never lost the point of the movie. There were a few twists and oh-my-gosh moments in the movie that had me on the edge. A few tear jerking moments are laced within the film also. I loved the movie, the plot, and and the characters, especially Tae-Soo who surprised me throughout the movie and brought in a lot of the comedy. The Classic was absolutely delightful and entertaining and hopefully American writers will look towards this film for inspiration. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes foreign films and romance movies. It gets a 4.5 out of 5. I'm thinking of watching another film called Millionaire's First Love later, but if you want another movie like this, I recommend watching Baby and I (pictured at left), another Korean film that I say is by far my favorite. It reminds a bit of Looks Who's Talking Now, but it's way cuter and sweeter.

Charice on GLee!

NEW YORK - APRIL 06: Reprise Records rising star Charice performs at Canal Room on April 6, 2010 in New York City. (Photo by Larry Busacca/Getty Images for Warner Brothers Records)

I saw it on Oprah. Just uttering those words makes me want to go buy a mini-van and turn in the rest of my precious teenage years for a new Volks wagon complete with a husband and three kids, but it's true. I met Charice Pempengo earlier on this year on the Oprah Winfrey show where she performed her new hit single "Pyramid" with Iyaz. I must admit, as I sat there and watched here belch out every note, I was taken aback. I couldn't believe that such a big voice was coming from this tiny woman (yes, a woman, she's eighteen). So like the good mini journalist my teachers have taught me to be, I searched for her on Youtube and found more videos that confirmed what I was thinking. Charice can sing, and she doesn't need technology to help her at all. She's been singing for a very long time, and started off singing to earn money for her family(for bio click here). Now she's being paid to sing and will you will soon be able to see her sing along side the members of Glee when she joins the cast in an upcoming season. I will admit here and now that I am not a fan of GLee. I've ony seen 1 1/4 of an episode of it and could not see what was so great about it. Then I saw this and had to say that these kids really do have talent. I'm sure Charice will fit right in with these kids, although I do believe she may steal the spotlight from time to time. Who knows, I just may watch this show when it returns. below I listed some other videos of Charice singing:

she's a little gangster on this one isn't she?

Now I love this song because of her. Skip to 1:53 to hear her sing

Charice as a child
Forgive me if I was misleading, I saw her perform while I was at home.

Cheerleaders, Assassins, and Spies-oh my!

May 20, 2010 - New York, New York, U.S. - CAST OF ''HELLCATS''.arriving at The CW Network's 2010 Upfront at Madison Square Garden in New York City on 05-20-2010.. I152331JZ. © Red Carpet Pictures

Fall is almost here and you know what that means - new TV line up! I must say that I'm really excited about some of the new shows coming out this year and I think they'll all be great, especially the ones on the CW Network. The one I'm definitely looking forward to is HellCats starring High School Musical's Ashley Tisdale and Alyson Michalka from the singing duo Aly and AJ.

The storyline seems really simple,Marti (Michalka) has just lost her college scholarship and in order to get a new one she decides to do something she thought she'd never do-join her school's cheer leading team the Hellcats. Tisdale is the antagonist in the show. Although I think the show will be a bit predictable at times, I hope it goes well. I love Aly and want to see how much of a rebel her character will be. This is definitely one show I will not miss. The show is set to premiere Wednesday, September 8Th.

I'm a sucker for anything about spies and assassins, so it's no question that I can't wait to watch Nikita when it airs on the CW. This show is about a woman who was able to escape a secret organization called the Division that recruits young people and trains them to become assassins. Nikita escaped the group and is now trying to help others escape that life while trying to protect her own. The show premieres Thursday, September 9th on the CW Network.
May 17, 2010 - New York, New York, U.S. - GUGU MBATHA,BORIS KODJOE of ''Undercovers''.at NBC Universal's 2010 Upfront.at The Hilton Hotel, New York City 05-17-2010. 2010.K64812JBB. © Red Carpet Pictures
The Undercovers is a show that centers on the life of a married couple who just so happen to be spies. It looks as if it's going to be have a Mr. & Mrs. Smith feel to and I'd love to see how this show will go. I'm sure ladies will be impressed that the lead man is none other than the very handsome Boris Kudjoe. This show will premiere on NBC Wednesday, September 22.

Can't wait next month for new premieres? Well, if you want a good show to watch, just check out Plain Jain, a show that helps transform plain girls into amazing women so they can finally confess their love to their secret crush. The show airs Wednesday's at 9/8c.
